Temporal Modalities for Concisely Capturing Timing Diagrams

چکیده
Timing diagrams are useful for capturing temporal specifications in which all mentioned events are required to occur. We first show that translating timing diagrams with both partial orders on events and don’t-care regions to LTL potentially yields exponentially larger formulas containing several non-localized terms corresponding to the same event. This raises a more fundamental question: which modalities allow a textual temporal logic to capture such diagrams using a single term for each event? We define the shapes of partial orders that are captured concisely by a hierarchy of textual linear temporal logics containing future and past time operators, as well Laroussinie et al’s forgettable past operator and our own unforeseen future operator. Our results give insight into the temporal abstractions that underlie timing diagrams and suggest that the abstractions in LTL are significantly weaker than those captured by timing diagrams.

"Event shape diagrams" are proposed as a representation for capturing the nuances of meaning of verbs that describe similar events. These diagrams represent timing, causal relationships between case roles, and typical value ranges for role fillers. Event shape diagrams are expressed in terms of primitive predicates and timing information that we believe could be computed by perceptual systems, ...

Within this survey article, we explain real-time symbolic timing diagrams and the ICOS toolbox supporting timing-diagram-based requirements capture and rapid prototyping. Real-time symbolic timing diagrams are a full-edged metric-time temporal logic, but with a graphical syntax reminiscent of the informal timing diagrams widely used in electrical engineering. ICOS integrates a variety of tools,...

Introduction: The neural substrates of temporal processing are not still fully known. The majority of interval timing studies have dealt with this subject in the context of “Explicit timing” (computing the time intervals explicitly). The hypothesis “Implicit timing” (implicitly using temporal processing to improve function) has also proposed. This lesion study addressed explicit and implicit ti...
